Hey, I am George.

I am a

• Computational Social Scientist

• Jiujitsu enthusiast

I most recently worked as a backend engineer for machine learning applications in Singapore. As a junior, I was exposed to fundamental concepts around microservices and API management, dockerised applications for Deep Learning applications. While I struggled with the role, it was a good exposure to software engineering life cycles, and offered me a good flavour of how machine learning products should be created.

Prior to that, I worked as a behavioural data scientist, where I used my skills in social research methods and computational data science for persona modelling, investigating abuse and threat actors on Social Media sites to understand techniques, impact and attribution.

Like most of you (probably, or hopefully), I have a more interesting set of interests outside of work.

For a start, I am a jiujitsu enthusiast, having learnt the art for more than 6 years. I am a grappling enthusiast in general, and I credit these art forms for teaching me more about my body mechanics, and for providing a temple when I need time and space away from the stress of academic and work life.

As a result of my formative years overseas, I am also addicted to travel. In 2023, I made an effort to incorporate 3 major trips in a calendar year. This has resulted in some exciting experiences, albeit at the expense of my career and omental health.
